Short Bio

Youngjae Kim finished his undergraduate education from Sogang University in Seoul in 2001. During his undergraduate school, he joined Korea military army in 1996 and he was discharged upon completing military service as a sergeant in 1998. After he completed a B.S. in Computer Science at Sogang in 2001, he attended KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) where he completed a M.S. in Computer Science in 2003. He was with Computer Architecture Group at KAIST. After that, he joined ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) as a research engineer in Embedded Operating Systems Team. In 2004, he started to study abroad in State College, Pennsylvania, where he began attending The Pennsylvania State University, pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering. He was a member of Penn State Computer Systems Lab. directed by Prof. Anand Sivasubramaniam and Prof. Bhuvan Urgaonkar. He completed his doctoral defense in August 2009 and obtained Ph.D degree in Computer Science and Engineering at Penn State in December 2009.

Research Interest

General research areas are computer systems, operating systems, system software, computer architecture, embedded systems, high performance computing and cloud computing. Research interests include operating systems, memory systems, file systems, I/O, virtualization, performance modeling, analysis and turning, scheduling, data processing and management, application tools development, parallel processing, and power and thermal management.
